Educating against food poverty!
It has always been part of The Bread Companion's goal to join the fight against food poverty and miseducation. Unfortunately, many members of our society still do not have access to good quality ingredients, food-making knowledge or the confidence to be better nourished. When TBC is up and running again after the difficulties posed by COVID-19, we are committed to using proceeds from our public workshops and bakery to fund classes for school children and more vulnerable communities to offer practical bread making classes and cookery courses.
Over the last six years, we have run several free workshops. One of these was at The Blue Sky Center in the Central Californian desert (image above is of this class) where we offered a bread making course for a group of women living in the rural community of New Cuyama, California, where access to good food is challenging. Our aim is to run 100 free workshops for communities such as these by 2022. If you would like us to run a class at your school, charity or community centre, please get in touch with us to see how we can collaborate when the world reopens once more.
